How do you feel about people/clubs hosting "Pimps and hoes parties"? Do you think they perpetuate negative stereotypes and turn the sex industry into a novelty akin to those of "racially based" costumes... Or is it like if someone made a "Doctors and Nurses" party in the sense that it's just a profession?
Generally, I avoid partying these days. I don’t like people much, and I don’t like drunk people even more, haha.
It’s tricky. The term ‘Pimps and Hoes’ has a negative connotation as it uses offensive, colloquial names, that are sort of tied to a certain image. Similarly, Doctors and Nurses conjours up an image of ‘naughty nurses’ and so on.
Personally, I just think stereotypical costumes are tacky. I mean, it’s cool if you want to have an ‘Ugly Sweater’ party, or ‘Beard’ party or ’80s Movies’ party, but perpetuating hurtful or offensive stereotypes with costumes is just lame.
Ultimately, people will do what they want, I’m not about to say how things should and shouldn’t be. I think themed nights don’t have to be negatively stereotypical, it’s really up to the individual and their interpretation of the theme.
